Surakarta City April 2023 Experiencing Inflation of 0.27 Percent

Abstract

In April 2023, Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.27 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 116.36. This inflation was due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose 0.44 percent, the clothing and footwear group rose 0.11 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group rose 0.44 percent, the supplies, equipment and routine household maintenance rose 0.17 percent, the health group rose 0.21 percent, the transportation group rose 0.01 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.98 percent. In contrast, the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.11 percent. While the recreation, sports and culture group, the education group and the group providing food, drinks/restaurants were relatively stable.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-April) 2023 is 1.31 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (April 2023 against April 2022) is 5.11 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rate was calculated, in April 2023 it was recorded that all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Kudus by 0.34 percent, followed by the city of Tegal by 0.33 percent, the city of Cilacap by 0.28 percent, the city of Purwokerto, the city of Surakarta and the city of Semarang each by 0.27 percent.

Of the 90 CPI cities nationally, 77 cities experienced inflation and 13 cities experienced deflation. The city with the highest inflation was Jayapura at 1.44 percent and the lowest inflation was in Sorong at 0.01 percent. On the contrary, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Meulaboh by 0.70 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Pekanbaru and Kotamobagu each by 0.01 percent.
