Abstract

In July 2020 the city of Surakarta experienced a deflation of 0.03 percent with the Consumer Price Index of 103.79. This deflation is caused by a decrease in prices as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index figures. The expenditure groups that experienced a price index decline were: the food, beverage and tobacco group fell by 0.43 percent, the health group by 0.11 percent, the transportation group by 0.16 percent and the information, communication and financial services group by 0.03 percent. On the other hand the clothing and footwear group rose 0.32 percent, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group rose 0.08 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.17 percent, the food, beverage / restaurant supply group rose 0, 56 percent and the group of personal care and other services rose 0.14 percent. While the housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups and the education group did not experience changes in the price index.
The calendar year inflation rate (January - July) 2020 is 0.58 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (July 2020 against July 2019) is 1.07 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures are calculated, in July 2020 all cities experienced deflation. The biggest deflation occurred in Purwokerto by 0.20 percent, followed by Cilacap by 0.17 percent, Semarang by 0.10 percent, Kudus by 0.09 percent, Tegal by 0.05 percent and Surakarta by 0.03 percent.
Out of 90 national CPI cities, 29 cities experienced inflation and 61 cities experienced deflation. The city experiencing the highest inflation was Timika at 1.45 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Jember and Banyuwangi by 0.01 percent respectively. On the contrary, the biggest deflation occurred in Manokwari city by 1.09 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Gunung Sitoli city, Bogor city, Bekasi city, Luwuk city and Bulukamba city respectively 0.01 percent.
