Surakarta City April 2020 Experienced a Deflation of 0.03 Percent

Abstract

In April 2020 the city of Surakarta experienced a deflation of 0.03 percent with the Consumer Price Index of 103.73. This deflation is caused by a decrease in prices as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index figures. The expenditure groups that experienced a price index decline were: the food, beverage and tobacco group fell 1.17 percent, the group of equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance fell 0.03 percent, the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.14 percent and the group recreation, sports and culture fell 0.06 percent. On the contrary the clothing and footwear group rose 0.34 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group rose 0.60 percent, the health group rose 0.34 percent, the transportation group rose 0.26 percent, the education group rose 0, 18 percent, the food and beverage / restaurant supply group rose 0.40 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.49 percent.
The calendar year inflation rate (January - April) 2020 is 0.52 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (April 2020 to April 2019) is 1.69 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in April 2020 recorded 2 cities experiencing inflation and 4 cities experiencing deflation. Inflation occurred in the city of Tegal by 0.26 percent and the city of Cilacap by 0.05 percent. On the other hand, deflation occurred in the cities of Purwokerto and Kudus each by 0.08 percent, the city of Surakarta 0.03 percent and the city of Semarang 0.02 percent.
Out of 90 national CPI cities, 39 cities experienced inflation and 51 cities experienced deflation. The city experiencing the highest inflation was Bau-Bau city by 0.88 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Cirebon, Depok city and Balikpapan city respectively by 0.02 percent. On the contrary, the biggest deflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang, which was 0.92 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Bogor and Semarang, each by 0.02 percent.
