Abstract

In September 2019 the city of Surakarta experienced a deflation of 0.26 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 131.83. This deflation is caused by a decrease in prices as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index figures. The expenditure groups that experienced a price index decline were: the foodstuffs group fell 2.25 percent and the health group fell 0.07 percent. Conversely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.29 percent, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.07 percent, the clothing group rose 1.24 percent, the education, recreation and sports group rose 0 , 24 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group rose 0.13 percent.
The calendar year inflation rate (January - September) 2019 is 1.96 percent, while the year on year inflation rate (September 2019 to September 2018) is 3.01 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in September 2019 it was recorded that all cities experienced deflation. The biggest deflation occurred in Purwokerto by 0.50 percent, followed by Cilacap city 0.46 percent, Tegal city 0.34 percent, Surakarta city 0.26 percent, Semarang city 0.18 percent and Kudus city 0.16 percent.
Out of 82 national CPI cities, 12 cities experienced inflation and 70 cities experienced deflation. The city with the highest inflation was Meulaboh by 0.91 percent and the lowest inflation was in Watampone and Palopo by 0.01 percent respectively. In contrast, the biggest deflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.94 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Surabaya 0.02 percent.
