Surakarta City May 2019 Inflation of 0.28 Percent

In May 2019 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.28 percent with the Consumer Price Index of 131.30. This inflation is caused by an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group rose 0.61 percent, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.03 percent, the clothing group rose 0.19 percent, the group health rose 0.09 percent, the education, recreation and sports group rose 0.06 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group rose 1.11 percent. In contrast, the foodstuffs fell 0.17 percent.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January - May) 2019 is 1.55 percent, while the inflation rate of "year on year" (May 2019 against May 2018) is 2.75 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province which calculated the inflation rate, in May 2019 all cities experienced inflation. The biggest inflation occurred in Purwokerto city by 0.48 percent, followed by Semarang city 0.36 percent, Tegal city 0.30 percent, Surakarta city 0.28 percent, Kudus city 0.22 percent and Cilacap city 0.19 percent.

Of the 82 national CPI cities, 81 cities experienced inflation and 1 city experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Tual city at 2.91 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Kediri by 0.05 percent. On the contrary, deflation only occurred in the city of Merauke, which amounted to 0.49 percent.
