Surakarta City in April 2019 Experienced Inflation of 0.68 Percent

In April 2019 Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.68 percent with the Consumer Price Index of 130.93 higher when compared to March 2019 which experienced an inflation of 0.29 percent. This inflation is caused by an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely the foodstuffs group rose 2.33 percent, the processed food group, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco rose 0.28 percent, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group rose 0.02 percent, the clothing group rose 0.05 percent, the health group rose 0.11 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group rose 0.93 percent. In contrast the education, recreation and sports group fell 0.01 percent.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January - April) 2019 is 1.26 percent, while the inflation rate of "year on year" (April 2019 against April 2018) is 2.51 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province which calculated the inflation rate, in April 2019 all cities experienced inflation. The biggest inflation occurred in Surakarta city by 0.68 percent, followed by Semarang city 0.47 percent, Tegal city 0.46 percent, Cilacap city 0.26 percent, Kudus city and Purwokerto city 0.21 percent respectively.

Of the 82 national CPI cities, 77 cities experienced inflation and 5 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was the city of Medan by 1.30 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Pare-Pare by 0.03 percent. On the contrary, the biggest deflation occurred in Manado city at 1.27 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Maumere by 0.04 percent.
