Abstract
In January 2021, Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.68 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 105.32. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose 0.84 percent, the clothing and footwear group increased 0.60 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuels group increased 0.11 percent, the group household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance increased by 0.05 percent, the health group increased by 10.06 percent, the transportation group increased 0.66 percent, the information, communication and financial services group increased 0.21 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group up 0.12 percent, the education group rose 0.48 percent, the food, beverage / restaurant supply group rose 0.18 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.22 percent.
The inflation rate for the calendar year for January 2021 is 0.68 percent, while the inflation rate for “year on year” (January 2021 against January 2020) is 1.93 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in January 2021, 5 cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surakarta at 0.68 percent, followed by Purwokerto at 0.35 percent, Cilacap and Kudus with 0.27 percent each and Semarang at 0.14 percent. On the other hand, Tegal City experienced deflation of 0.17 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 75 cities experienced inflation and 15 cities experienced deflation. The city with the highest inflation was Mamuju city at 1.43 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Balikpapan and the city of Ambon, each with 0.02 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau city at 0.92 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Pontianak at 0.01 percent.
