Abstract

In December 2023, the city of Surakarta experienced inflation of 0.22 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 118.52. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: food, beverages and tobacco group increased 0.61 percent, clothing and footwear group increased 0.06 percent, housing, water, electricity and household fuel group increased 0.02 percent, group supplies, equipment and routine household maintenance rose 0.14 percent, the health group rose 0.01 percent, the transportation group rose 0.26 percent, the information, communication and financial services group rose 0.19 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.19 percent. 0.26 percent. Meanwhile, the recreation, sports and culture group, education group and food, drink/restaurant provision group were relatively stable.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-December) 2023 and the year-on-year inflation rate (December 2023 to December 2022) is 3.20 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in December 2023 all cities were recorded as experiencing inflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Surakarta, the city of Semarang and the city of Tegal, each amounting to approx
0.22 percent, followed by the city of Cilacap at 0.18 percent, the city of Purwokerto at 0.17 percent and the city of Kudus at 0.15 percent.

Of the 90 national CPI cities, 85 cities experienced inflation and 5 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was the city of Ternate at 1.64 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in the city of Bandar Lampung at 0.02 percent.
On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Meulaboh at 0.67 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Dumai and Metro City at 0.03 percent each.
