In August 2023, the city of Surakarta experienced inflation of 0.03 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 117.08. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose 0.04 percent, the clothing and footwear group rose 0.05 percent, the health group rose 0.08 percent, the education group rose 0.64 percent, the provision group food, beverages/restaurants rose 0.10 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.03 percent. On the other hand, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group fell by 0.03 percent, the supplies, equipment and routine household maintenance group fell by 0.08 percent, the transportation group fell by 0.18 percent, the information, communication and financial services group fell by 0. .04 percent and the recreation, sports and culture group fell 0.06 percent.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-August) 2023 is 1.94 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2023 to August 2022) is 3.79 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in August 2023 all cities were recorded as experiencing inflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Tegal at 0.06 percent, followed by the city of Cilacap at 0.04 percent, the city of Surakarta at 0.03 percent, the city of Kudus and the city of Semarang each at 0.02 percent and the city of Purwokerto at 0.01 percent. .

Of the 90 national CPI cities, 44 cities experienced inflation and 46 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was the city of Manokwari at 0.55 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in DKI Jakarta, the city of Purwokerto and the city of Mataram at 0.01 percent each.
