Abstract

In May 2023, Surakarta City experienced inflation of 0.19 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 116.58. This inflation was due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index were: the food, beverage and tobacco group rose 0.98 percent, the clothing and footwear group rose 0.10 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group rose 0.03 percent, the health rose 0.31 percent and the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.02 percent. On the other hand, the equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance group fell 0.04 percent, the transportation group fell 0.41 percent, the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.17 percent and the personal care and other services group fell 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the education group and the group providing food, drinks/restaurants were relatively stable.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-May) 2023 is 1.51 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2023 against May 2022) is 4.57 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rate was calculated, in May 2023 it was recorded that all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tegal City at 0.32 percent, followed by Cilacap City, Purwokerto City and Semarang City each at 0.22 percent, Kudus City at 0.21 percent and Surakarta City at 0.19 percent.

Of the 90 CPI cities nationally, 77 cities experienced inflation and 13 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Tanjung Pandan City at 1.28 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang City, Tangerang City and Mamuju City each at 0.01 percent. On the contrary, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Kupang by 0.79 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Bima and the city of Waingapu each by 0.03 percent.
