Surakarta Municipality in October 2022 Experiences Deflation of 0.06 Percent

In October 2022 Surakarta City experienced a deflation of 0.06 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 114.20. This deflation was caused by a decline in prices as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index. The expenditure groups that experienced a decline in the price index were: the food, beverage and tobacco category, which fell 1.16 percent and the information, communication and financial services group fell 0.13 percent. In contrast, the clothing and footwear group rose 0.11 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group rose 0.19 percent, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group rose 0.30 percent, the health group rose 0.28 percent, the transportation group rose 0.29 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.73 percent, the food provision group, beverages/restaurants rose 0.54 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.45 percent. While the education group is relatively stable.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-October) 2022 is 6.42 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (October 2022 to October 2021) is 7.53 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in October 2022, 3 cities experienced inflation and 3 cities experienced deflation. Inflation occurred in the city of Purwokerto and the city of Kudus at 0.02 percent respectively and the city of Cilacap by 0.01 percent. On the other hand, deflation occurred in the city of Semarang by 0.18 percent, the city of Tegal by 0.07 percent and the city of Surakarta by 0.06 percent.

Of the 90 national CPI cities, 29 cities experienced inflation and 61 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Manokwari city at 0.76 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Cilacap city, Sintang city and Gorontalo city at 0.01 percent each. On the other hand, the city that experienced the largest deflation was Gunungsitoli city at 1.48 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Sampit city at 0.01 percent.
