Abstract

In August 2022 Surakarta City experienced a deflation of 0.06 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 112.80. This deflation was caused by a decline in prices as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced a decline in the price index, namely: food, beverages and tobacco, fell 1.40 percent. On the other hand, the clothing and footwear group rose 0.30 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group rose 0.08 percent, the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group rose 0.56 percent, the health group rose 0.02 percent, the transportation group rose 0.40 percent, the information, communication and financial services group rose 0.01 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group rose 0.31 percent, the education group rose 0.20 percent, the food, beverage/ restaurants were up 0.73 percent and the personal care and other services group was up 0.99 percent.

The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-August) 2022 is 5.12 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2022 against August 2021) is 6.47 percent.

Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation rates were calculated, in August 2022 all cities experienced deflation. The largest deflation occurred in Tegal at 0.64 percent, followed by Cilacap at 0.55 percent, Purwokerto and Semarang at 0.44 percent each, Kudus city at 0.31 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Surakarta at 0.06 percent.

Of the 90 national CPI cities, 11 cities experienced inflation and 79 cities experienced deflation. The city that experienced the highest inflation was Ambon city at 0.82 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Bekasi city at 0.12 percent. On the contrary
The city that experienced the largest deflation was Tanjung Pandan at 1.65 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in Depok and Kediri at 0.01 percent.
