Abstract
In August 2020, the city of Surakarta experienced inflation of 0.12 percent with a Consumer Price Index of 103.91. This inflation was caused by an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the consumer price index. Expenditure groups that experienced an increase in the price index, namely: the clothing and footwear group, up 0.92 percent, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 0.19 percent, the equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance group up 0.18. percent, the health group increased 0.40 percent, the transportation group increased 0.48 percent, the information, communication and financial services group increased 0.10 percent, the recreation, sports and culture group increased 0.26 percent, the education group increased 1.23 percent, the food, beverage / restaurant supply group rose 0.58 percent and the personal care and other services group rose 0.54 percent. In contrast, the food, beverage and tobacco group fell 1.02 percent.
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January - August) 2020 is 0.70 percent, while the "year on year" inflation rate (August 2020 against August 2019) is 1.09 percent.
Of the 6 cities in Central Java Province whose inflation figures were calculated, in August 2020 it was recorded that 3 cities experienced inflation and 3 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in the city of Surakarta at 0.12 percent, followed by the city of Tegal at 0.09 percent and the city of Kudus at 0.05 percent. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Purwokerto at 0.12 percent, followed by the city of Cilacap at 0.09 percent and the city of Semarang with 0.06 percent.
Of the 90 national CPI cities, 37 cities experienced inflation and 53 cities experienced deflation. The city with the highest inflation was Meulaboh at 0.88 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Batam City, Kediri City and Kotamobagu City with 0.02 percent respectively. On the other hand, the largest deflation occurred in the city of Kupang at 0.92 percent and the smallest deflation occurred in the city of Sibolga, Tembilahan city, Bekasi city, and Banyuwangi city each with 0.01 percent.
